Brno

Brno is a modern city with many places reflecting its eventful history. Seated high upon a hill in the centre, Spilberk, a medieval fortress, coverted later into an infamous prison, dominates the skyline. Another landmark is the St. Peter and Paul Cathedral of Brno, and its twin spires are symbols of tzhe city. Among the numerous historic places and villas, foremost is the Kunstat House. There are also outstanding examples of modern architecture in Brno: the Tugendhat Villa, a masterpiece from Mies van der Rohe, is world reknowned.

Brno rightly has the reputation of being a trade fair capital. International fairs and exhibitions on a variety of subjects are held here weekly and draw hundresds of thousands of visitors. The motor-racing circuit with a new Masaryk´s circuit hosts the World Motorcycling Championship known as the Grand Prix of the Czech Republic.
